Go with UFI , those problems were 13 years ago and not relevant now.

I'd sooner not change my oil filter at all than use a Fram. If I can't identify the correct Baldwin or NAPA replacement -- and I suppose the next logical step is to contact them directly -- I'll use a UFI, and probably try to determine the manufacture date first. Elementary question: 512TR uses one or two? (I'm not going to change them; my mechanics will when they have the car for its annual state inspection next week.)

A lister I know had several Fram collapse due to pressure on the inside which is not good for the engine. There were a whole batch of bad ufis but they are all probably long gone now.

I recall that there had been problems discovered with UFI filters -- supposedly defective O-rings supplied by a third party -- produced during a certain period years ago (2000-01), and dealers had provided free replacements. But from what I found, filters for the 512TR weren't among the models the filters had been manufactured for. And, in any case, presumably those filters are now being made correctly. I thought UFI was an official Ferrari supplier (i.e., if I purchased a 512TR oil filter from a Ferrari dealer then I'd get one made by UFI). So is there still a problem to avoid UFI filters for my car? I'm not certain, but found the filter identified as UFI #2331001 and Ferrari part 148404. That doesn't seem to help when I search for Baldwin filters through WR Grainger or NAPA. Searching at Baldwin didn't show any filters specifically identified as 148404 or for the 512TR, and a more general search turned up 1,651 filters, which didn't help me identify which I needed. http://www.grainger.com/search/ecatalog/N-/Ntt-Baldwin?refineSearchString=oil+filter&searchString=Baldwin&sst=subset . Same story for NAPA. Can anyone point me to the correct filter?

Am too lazy and challenged to efficiently search the archives, so could someone tell me what is generally recommended for a 512TR oil filter (and if it's not one that is readily available at somewhere like AutoZone, Pep Boys or Advance Auto Parts, what's a good, inexpensive source)?
