Thanks Guys -
I have a Netgear 600N Router and it's in the next room so it's pretty close.  Signal strength shows 5 full bars - so I assume that's full strength?

Sounds like the WiFi Chromecast might work for me.  Mostly we use my laptop like a DVR - but now my 'box' has a built DVR I won't need to hook up my laptop for most programs.

Next I need to contact Comcast (Yuck) and see how big my DVR hard drive is...

Thanks again -
Larry

Hi Gang --
I was considering a Chromecast & wondered about the quality of the transmission.  Is wi-fi quality as good as a hard-wired connection between laptop  tv?    Is it even close?

It all depends upon the speed of your WiFi connection. If it's a strong signal without a lot of interference, and you're running at least Wireless G (and preferably Wireless N), then you'll have no trouble getting top-notch HD video and digital sound.
