Rob,
you are agonizing over things again... it's no big deal. My Ferrari started in CA but spent most of its life in Texas. You have to get the motor back in "original" condition and get it to pass a smog test. Then you have to take it to a DMV office for an inspection. They verify it's road worthy and run the numbers to be sure there are no outstanding fees... it there are, you'll have to pay them.... California has a long memory. IF the car was registered in CA before... they'll know it.
SMOG... Assuming you bought the Pantera... Talk to Mikey. Most of the POCA chapters have a box of old parts that you borrow or rent (money goes to the club) and put on the motor... old funky blue air cleaner off someone's station wagon, ugly blue Ford valve covers with the right breathers, carb that been adjusted, original headers with the heat riser for the air cleaner, blah, blah, blah. You put the parts on, get the car registered then you do the dance that I'll not elaborate on. Before you go for your smog check, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT for a specific
time and let the guys know you expect them to keep that appointment ON TIME. Fill it with premium and run it hard on the freeway... 3rd gear, 70mph for at least 20 minutes. When you get to the smog shop, SHUT it off - DON'T sit there idling and yakking on your cell phone -get it smogged. See if you can find a smog shop just off the freeway. You'll be fine.
oh, and make it easy on the smog guys... if you car has the luggage bucket in the back, leave it home!!

Subject: [Ferrari] URGENT Need help with registering Out of State Euro Car in CA
All,
A question,
I am trying to find information on registering a euro car bought out of state. It spent most its life in CA, now it is titled out of state. I looked at the DMV website and said the car could not be registered unless it had a 50 state emission plate. This is a 1974? The DMV website seems pretty cut and dry and says no emission plate no exemption unless a very few that dont apply to a regular sale. Just cause they are smog exempt does not mean they can be registered?
Thanks for any advice hoping someone here has the info I need.
