It's much like painting a real car, all comes down to prep. Because the bodies are a white metal, a zinc chromate primer is best, but as long as the surface is not super-smooth (say, sanded with a relatively course grit sand paper), regualr primer should suffice.
I use car wax to keep the paint's lustre nice and shiny. My project is stalled at the moment, but I was in the midst of doing a model of my car. I used the Elvis Presley edition of the GT4 as my car is black, all I did was apply the Boxer trim to it. Note to change interior colour: When taking a dark interior and painting it lighter, paint first silver, then paint the colour you want over top of that. The model came with black seats/doors but my car is red inside. I painted it first silver, then painted it red - no colour bleed of the black through the red (or in the case of the headliner, white). Silver is completely opaque, it blocks out any colour underneath. Seems like they modified their DC cars to represent the real cars they own. I also have quite a few DC cars and was wondering if other collectors are having trouble with paint on their cars like I am? A couple have gotten to the point where i am pondering repainting the bodies and I was hoping i might get some pointers here before I search YouTube for some help. Or maybe I'm the only one with paint flaking?
