Dang! I had no idea of the science or extent of effort on some of these. Cool topic.

It's much like painting a real car, all comes down to prep. Because the bodies are a white metal, a zinc chromate primer is best, but as long as the surface is not super-smooth (say, sanded with a relatively course grit sand paper), regualr primer should suffice.

I use car wax to keep the paint's lustre nice and shiny.

My project is stalled at the moment, but I was in the midst of doing a model of my car. I used the Elvis Presley edition of the GT4 as my car is black, all I did was apply the Boxer trim to it.

Note to change interior colour: When taking a dark interior and painting it lighter, paint first silver, then paint the colour you want over top of that. The model came with black seats/doors but my car is red inside. I painted it first silver, then painted it red - no colour bleed of the black through the red (or in the case of the headliner, white). Silver is completely opaque, it blocks out any colour underneath.

I seem to recall some other collectors of die Cars on this list.  Seems like they modified their DC cars to represent the real cars they own.    I also have quite a few DC cars and was wondering if other collectors are having trouble with paint on their cars like I am?   A couple have gotten to the point where i am pondering repainting the bodies and I was hoping i might get some pointers here before  I search YouTube for some help.

Or maybe I'm the only one with paint flaking?

TIA,
LarryT
