It's much the same with any major city you can think of. I used to drive quite a bit into Vancouver and although with an improved highway (with the major bridge to cross being tolled now $3 each way, is empty! The other "free" bridges are plugged solid with traffic avoiding paying the toll!), city driving has gotten worse with densification, bicycle lanes and stupider drivers! Not fun anymore!

I live outside in the suburbs and drive out on some of the valley roads which is great - for now. It's better suited for an older car like mine that isn't outright fast, but is perfect for the nice tight sweeping back country roads.

After having the GT4 for 15 years, I'd say the novelty has worn off a bit. When I first got it, you couldn't get me out of it, nowadays, I'm putting around 1200mi/year - strictly a weekend toy when the weather is good. I can't imagine how little mileage I'd put on each car if I had those 27. Although if I had the bucks to afford a collection like that, I wouldn't have to "waste" time going to a job everyday, so would have the time I guess...

;)

Driving here for the most part is not open empty roads; traffic is horrendous, the weather terrible 6 months of the year and salt and grit really takes its toll. Loads of people here know you can't make money with money in the bank so why not buy cars where at least you can look at them?

I may not get to drive them very much or even want to except for a jaunt to Italy in the summer but I can certainly see why you could have cars here in the UK with very low miles. It's just not the same environment like when I grew up in Florida and there were endless empty roads and sunny days to drive in....
