I bought my GT4 when they were "worthless" - at the time I could have spent $2000 MORE for a brand new Toyota Celica than what I paid for the 308, because back then, nobody cared about them. Literally *.
I did it to fulfill that childhood dream but did it when I was young (at 24), because I saw too many relatives go through life not fulfilling their dreams and then passing away. My uncle who I absolutely adored, was a hero to me, worked all of his life at one company (aircraft manufacturer Canadair), decided when he retired, to buy his dream car (which he grew up in post-war times, was Lincoln. Don't laugh). So he goes ahead, buys one, then within a year, gets a brain tumor, and (painfully) slowly succumbs to it. Worked all of his life and never got to enjoy what he loved the most. That had a profound effect on me. There were many more relatives with similar stories. Life's too short. Peter * I was at a big event, which a club hosted a hospitality tent for Ferrari owners, offering snacks and goodies. Seated at a large table was a couple who, looked to me to be in their mid-50s. I asked if I could sit and they said yes. They asked what Ferrari I brought and I replied a 1975 308 GT4. "Oh, that's... (a REALLY long pause) nice". Small talk carried on for a bit until they got up to leave. Their closing remarks: "well, we'll try to look for your car out there with the MILLION other 308s..." Ouch. Thankfully those have been the only douche-bag Ferrari owners I've ever met. Date: Sat, 2 May 2015 14:09:36 +1200 From: gavinnz [at] xtra.co.nz Subject: [Ferrari] 512TR and 308 values in general... CC: ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com To: dino308gt4 [at] hotmail.com I think the time is right for the 308GTB/S and TR are about to have their day. The kids who were influenced by them on Magnum PI and Miami Vice are coming up to the age when they are now looking to buy the car of their childhood dreams. I am one of them as I am 46 and watched Magnum PI mostly for the car (the rest was the hot women! lol) I got in early and got my '78 red and tan, full Euro spec GTB with deep air dam, on 16 inch Ferrari wheels with upgraded suspension and better front brakes and one off stainless exhaust about 8 or 9 years ago. It's exactly what I wanted and the only Ferrari I ever want. I don't think they will be all an investor bubble because the reason we are buying them is we love them. But the investors WILL jump on the bandwagon of course... Just thinking out loud....
