I would go for a lighter Braile AGM or a super light Lithium unit. Battery tech has increased rapidly in the last few years.

I always am looking for ways to shed weight and modern batteries are an easy way to drop 20-25lbs.

Agree with SJ on selecting the proper tender but I have reverted back to just disconnecting the batteries for long term storage.

I am switching to a 1.5 lbs (yes, one point five) battery for my motorcycle.

Anything by East Penn Manuf (they make Deka) is quality.

Get an AGM then make sure your charger has the higher voltage AGM mode. Like a CTEK:


Tho I have an Optima red top in my 512TR.

I heard that Optima quality is not what it used to be.  A friend recommended NAPA -- supposedly made by Deka east of the Mississippi (where I am) and Allied Signal to the west, but I haven't even checked whether they make on in my size (whatever that may be).
