Disconnecting is safe, cheap and lightweight. Pick the option that makes you smile. Agree with SJ on selecting the proper tender but I have reverted back to just disconnecting the batteries for long term storage. I am switching to a 1.5 lbs (yes, one point five) battery for my motorcycle. Good luck! Then I had one die because the leads were accidentally shorted to the metal chassis and another die because I left lights on at movie theater (and they're never the same after a full recharge). Not battery's fault in either case but the $350 or so to buy them got old, plus they weighed a ton too. Went with optima yellow top, and was more than good enough. Are any of them really car batteries? We used one of them for surveillance batteries which work just great for 12 to 15 hours.
