No sure about this Erik.  The German brands do have less expensive models, like the BMW 1-series and the Mercedes-Benz CLA, but get into a current S-class, G-wagon, etc. and tell me that there is a mass market quality to them.  The less expensive cars with less expensive materials are meant to capture brand loyalty early and keep the buyers striving to buy something nicer and more expensive in the future.  Not sure if you've spent any time checking out the new Mercedes CLA, but anyone who picks a $35,000 Camry over this car needs their head examined.

Worked with both teams. Chevy did alright with this one.

The former premium cars (Audi, BMW and Mercedes) have moved their brand center of gravity down in pursuit of volume, they're all becoming mass market brands now.  None are really worth the premium, so why not just chase bang for the buck?

Anyone that claims otherwise is trying to move inventory.

He must really hate the C63 because I still don't know in what universe Nielsen would actually endorse an American car....let alone spending his own money on one.

Same universe as Clyde collecting 348s...

Most of the C63s are minimum 35k, some go up to 50k.

That's not a ton of money of course, but it does infringe on used E/S/CL territory of similar years.

What is decent money? I haven't seen a Benz that held it's value since the 1980s.

Wait another 2 yrs and buy on CList for $20k.

So what does that mean that a C63 AMG (the recent outgoing one, not the new one) is still worth decent money? (more than a few used S and CLs)...

Better built or just niche demand?

I have always wondered why used German cars are so cheap...like comically cheap.

After owning a W140 S class, I now know the answer!

Batteries I can deal with, but I am concerned about the ABC system. I
have visions of the Benz squatting down in a puddle of its own hydraulic
fluid a'la Citroen.  I noticed that MB discontinued ABC when they went
to standard AWD in 2010.
