1972 Ferrari 246 GT s/n 03000

Dear Lashdeep Singh,
The owner of 1972 USA model Dino (Ferrari) 246 GT Berlinetta s/n 03000 GT has just authorized a price reduction. 246 GT s/n 03000 is a great looking, delightful driving and very well documented Dino Coupe with known ownership back to the first owner, Edward Mernone, then the president of the Porsche Owner's club. The complete engine and transaxle were just rebuilt by Rod Drew's F.A.I. in Costa Mesa, CA at a cost of $36,896.34. The correct and matching numbers engine has just been treated to 12 new valves, 12 new valve guides and 12 new valve seats; all new rod, main and thrust bearings; new rings; 24 new head studs and nuts; new cam chains and chain guides; all new frost plugs and a full engine gasket set. The mechanical accessories were rebuilt including new carb kits, new fuel lines and fuel crossover hoses; a rebuilt water pump with new water pump seals, a new shaft and new bearings. All coolant and heater hoses were replaced, the overflow tank was repaired and the water pump-alternator belt was replaced. The distributor was rebuilt with a new seal, a new distributor cam; new distributor weights, plates and points and a new condenser.
The correct and matching numbers differential and transaxle were rebuilt with new positraction plates; new ring gear support bearings; a new input shaft bearing; new final drive seals and bearings and a new shift boot shaft seal. The clutch assembly was rebuilt, the bellhousing bearings were replaced and a new clutch cable was installed. The brakes and suspension were also restored with the front shocks rebuilt, new front spring seats and boots and new lower ball joints. The steering rack was rebuilt and new tie rod ends and bellows were fitted. All rear inner suspension bushings were replaced and new rear sway bar bushings were installed. All the rubber brake hoses were replaced and the brake system was flushed. All glass and trim were removed and the body was treated to a new windshield gasket and rear window gasket; new door seals and door leading edge seals; new radiator foam and a new battery. Needless to say all fluids and filters including brake fluid, engine oil, gear oil and coolant were replaced and 246 GT s/n 03000 GT was treated to a four-wheel alignment. Thanks to the just-completed rebuild, 246 GT s/n 03000 GT is professionally sorted and pride-of-ownership, turn-key driver! The chassis, motor, transmission and all components are numbers matching and original to the car. All invoices are on file in PDF format.
While the glass, trim, bumpers and lights were off the car the body was painted with an excellent high-quality re-spray in the original red at a cost of $4,001.20 because of miscellaneous door dents. The body and panel fit are excellent. There is near-new mouse fur on the dash and the seats, the door panels and carpets were obviously replaced sometime in the past. The original inner sill panels and rear firewall panel are all in excellent condition. 246 GT s/n 03000 GT looks as good as it drives.
246 GT s/n 03000 GT is a North American-delivery E-Series Dino with leather seats and power windows. Built in December of 1971, it has been fitted with attractive and nicely integrated headlight covers, a common update at that time. 246 GT s/n 03000 GT comes with the full set of original tools and tool roll, the correct jack, jack bag, wheel chock and tire iron, an original owner's handbook, parts book and USA supplement owner's handbook, plus a Dino Parts catalogue for the USA Dino and a repro leather carrying pouch. Also fitted with near new Michelin XWX tires, the original three-point seat belts and comes with a correct original Becker Mexico cassette radio (not installed). 246 GT s/n 03000 GT is very clean under the front hood with a new plastic inner firewall cover, is very nicely detailed and everything works as it should. Five documented owners from new.
The 246 GT coupes and the later 246 GTS spyders were the first evolution of Ferrari's higher-volume, smaller-engine exotics, meant to appeal to a larger market than the flagship V-12s and were the first of the long line of V6 and V8 Ferraris that have evolved into a massive commercial success for Ferrari. Named after Enzo Ferrari's son, Alfredino, who died in 1956 at the age of 24 of muscular dystrophy, the Dino was the first of the 'baby' Ferraris - smaller, lighter and more nimble than the larger 12-cylinder street Ferraris. Its transverse mid-engine was a Ferrari first in a street car, and the four-cam V6 shows its direct racing heritage from the V6 powered 206 SP and V6 powered F2 Ferraris, The sleek and sensuous Pininfarina designed and Scaglietti built 246 stands as one of the most beautiful and exotic street model Ferraris ever built, epitomizing the Enzo-era Ferraris. Thanks to the Dino's low sweeping body lines and the sounds of the well-proven, low-maintenance, high-revving V-6 right behind your seat, every trip to dinner, Sunday brunch or your local coffee shop sounds, drives and feels like a qualifying lap at Sebring.
Ferrari 246 GT s/n 03000 offers everything the Dino enthusiast could want - a "done" Dino that shows well and is thoroughly sorted with excellent ownership records and service records. We welcome any mechanical or body inspection or fly in for a personal inspection. All paperwork on file. Now only $299,500.
