The list discussion on this was a while back
But the bottom line was that the air bag ECU had to work with the main ECU in other words the car would not start which is part of the SRS system
There are insurance ramifications as well with regards to the SRS

I was in the market for a 550/575 until I heard that these electronic components where no longer available

If I were you I would buy one of those units as a Combat Spare
It would make the car much more readily salable later on

As far as your TR great car
But typical Ferrari they always make the later versions better
308 vs 328
355 vs 360

Next time you service the TR install the after market aluminum radiators
That's my plan anyway
With the stock ones which are nit repairable
You are just driving a time bomb

Clyde,

Forgive my naivete.

When you say that there are no “air bag computers” available, are you referring to the air bag ECUs?

If you are, I know of a few dealers who list the ECUs in their parts inventory.

Replacement air bags appear to be more difficult. No replacements are listed by USA dealers. I am pursuing with Ferrari Spa in Maranello.

So, what happens if the air bag computer cannot be replaced in a 550/575?

Obviously, the air bags become non-functional……but……..what are the consequences?

Can a 575M with no air bag computer still be started and driven? Are there registration and/or insurance issues?

Again, forgive my ignorance.

I own both a 1985 TR and a 2005 575M….Lately, both it seems, have  been taking some negative hits on the List. Personally, I think they are great cars…for different reasons….and I greatly enjoy driving both.....which makes the recent bad press just that much more difficult for me to understand.
