Peter -

At my '87 TR's first major service many years ago we soldered several crimped connectors to their wires as a preventative measure.  Haven't experienced any issues since then.

I think I'm reaching the end of running with the original fuse boxes. The last couple of times I had the car out recently, I could hear my rad fan relays clicking more frequently than usual and it isn't as hot as in past summers. I checked the fuses and they're still un-popped, but the clear cover actually started to deform from the heat generated. The fans are running as they should and temperatures are rock-steady.

This is not the first issue I've had with the boxes, but outward appearances don't show any corrosion where the blade connectors are riveted to the buss bars behind. The blades also don't feel "loose".

I must add, that this 308 uses the old black/white boxes that run continental ceramic fuses. When I bought the car 16 years ago, I replaced them right away with glass style GBC type. The 308 GT4 places the fuse boxes right inside the glove box, which would be a little higher up than the 308 GTB/GTS location. Relays are behind an aluminum panel at the foot of the passenger.

From my experience with commercial vehicles, corrosion always seem to build up at connections. Even with the connectors themselves, where they are crimped onto the wires. Is there a tool that can UN-CRIMP a connector at the wire? I don't want to simply cut off the wire at the base of the connector, as they are tightly run to the boxes and I don't think I'd have anymore length left to strip and crimp on a new connection. If I can save the end, I'd just sand back to some fresh copper for the new connector to make better contact with.

I am planning to use dielectric grease to improve corrosion resistance. We use this stuff all the time at work:

Any advice or suggestions? Yes, I am very familiar with the Birdman fuse boxes...
