As an example if the reverse.

Recently heard from a friend that Christian Horner and his wife Ginger Spice will be joining him for an antique car rally in London.

I was honestly excited.  While - as Rob said - he is the “enemy” the insights into his character from the Sky TV coverage have really made me respect the man.

I mean - really - a team principal that goes on air, live, during the race who isn’t afraid to give honest commentary?  Even as the enemy I’ve come to respect and like the guy.

Another example - Lance Stroll. Yeah he is still a kid, but the pure excitement and thankfulness when he made it to the ready room after the race, he was even cool with Botas sneaking by on the last straight. The guy was clearly and obviously happy to be there and his attitude was obvious   The kid was downright giddy to be on the podium. Even when his car sucks, he seems to take it is stride and seems to be thankful for the opportunities that he has been presented

I seem to remember a young Hamilton being that same way - but I suppose that a few years of success with everyone around him blowing smoke up his arse (see that, I spoke British!) has made his head swell a bit.  I suppose sone of that is part and parcel of the job and the success, but so many others have managed to be in that same place but still maintained a bit of sportsmanship.

I always disliked Alonzo for behaving like that - even when he was “our guy”.  When it went all right, it was all him.  When it was less than perfect, he was quick to get on the radio or microphone to start trashing the team, the car, the orders, etc.  hated that and was glad to see him go.  Surprisingly, now that he has been relegated to mid-pack, his attitude seems better - or, perhaps, he is just getting less tv time to air his grievances.

Just my .02 this morning

Hope you all have a great day and a pleasant Labor Day.  I am off to the grind.

Peace my friends,

Scottie

Robert…

Yep…”You are”

You are the man.

Of course I knew you were having fun with us.

I am of the same vintage as you, with similar failing parts issues. Like you, I often feel like anyone not in an F1 Ferrari is the enemy.

And I also agree that F1 drivers are very unique people….each one of them.

After all, there are probably only 35 or 40 drivers qualified to drive F1, and of those, only a handful win.

I agree that judging people by the color of their skin is wrong…..on many levels…..yet I am saddened and disappointed when people live up to their negative stereotypes.

When I see that someone who suddenly goes to extremes with hair, piercings, etc….I don’t judge the person.

But I do conclude that something significant has changed with individual’s psyche. I saw similar happenings in the raising of my two sons.

Perhaps with Lewis, both his bad attitude and poor sportsmanship have always been there.

And maybe his overt change of appearance signifies that he cares not what people think of his appearance or his behavior. I honestly don’t know.

But anytime someone suddenly and overtly changes their appearance, something else that we can’t see is happening.

Dick Petrick
