I went with QA-1 shock absorbers. Adjustable height and rebound and 1/3 the weight of the standard units. Very happy with the result.

OK, since you asked, I will put together a few photos and share.

Meanwhile, shockies are simply shock absorbers.  We Australians have a habit of contacting some words, hence shock absorber becomes shockie.  Here are a few other examples…

Australian – Aussie but pronounced Ozzie

Swimming costume – cozzie

Afternoon – arvo

Having a break from work (probably to have a cigarette) – smoko

Having a day off work (probably pretending to be sick) - sickie

Cigarette – ciggie

Bricklayer – brickie

Breakfast – Brekkie

Tradesperson – tradie

Truck driver – truckie

Bike rider – bikie

Can of beer – tinnie

Small aluminium boat – tinnie

By the way, going back to my shockies, I had the Konis rebuilt with stiffer valving and chose for them to be set at about +20%.  It was done by a mob in Melbourne and the price was reasonable.

Cheers,

Grahame

Indeed, the build sounds really cool. Where are the pics and video??

Also, what the hell are “shockies”??

Are they lighter than regular shocks? If so, where do I procure them?

Thanks,

LSJ

I’m not a stickler for originality, so YMMV, and my 308gt4 is more track-oriented. The story is a bit of a spider that ate the fly thing.  After the original engine lunched itself (think: sodium-filled valves), I started the rebuild with a 3.2 Mondial motor, then did a few nice mods to that and we ended up making quite a bit more horsepower.  So to go with that, I decided to do a brake upgrade and went for Brembo 4-pot brake calipers from a 360 with 320mm diameter x 32mm, 2-piece, floating, ventilated, cross-cut discs with custom billet aluminium bells and mounts.  I then put in new springs, about 20% stiffer than stock, and also upped the shockies by about 20% in terms of impact and rebound.  I was running 16” x 7” front and 16” x 8” rear rims before the brake upgrade but those rims did not work with the big brakes.  So I went for 18” x 8” forged aluminium Challenge-style rims all-round, which opened up a world of modern rubber.  By going to the 8” wide rim at front, I was a little worried that it might feel “over-tyred”, but that’s not how it is, as it feels great and points well.  I am currently running 245/40R18 Pirelli Dragons which I find are very nice on this car and versatile, being a very good dry/wet and street/track compromise.

Cheers,

Grahame
