Ahh yes, the drag races to stop lights. Never understood that...

I can’t blame them though. Today, it’s hard to find a SUV/truck with less than 300HP and with interiors so quiet and comfortable, it’s hard to feel acceleration.

Reminds me of my coworker when he bought his Kia(!) a couple of years ago. Driving it for the first time, while heading back home, he looked down at his speedo and saw he was going 150km/h (just over 90MPH). He said he never felt it and was amazed at how smooth it was.

Me and my manual transmission are stopped at a signal.  Behind me is some newish SUV with 1,250 hp. and with some sort of sequential auto/manual transmission.  Signal turns green - I'm off and . . . . without going to redline, shift to second. invoking a s-l-i-g-h-t hesitation.  SUV's grill fills my rear view mirror.  Second is a bit better as by that time we are up to local speed limit.  Pick-up trucks are just as bad.  SUV roars off and beats me to the next red light.

I worry about this in all of my manual transmission cars. I can wait at a stop light without my foot on the brake because a manual in neutral won't creep, but it also won't warn clueless idiots behind me of why my car is getting bigger so fast.

Same in traffic or in unexpected stops on interstate. So I use the brake not because I need it, but because other people need it.
