So many of these cars are bought as investments
or to show and win a specific trophy and are never driven. Has
their value been hurt? Many items such as cars, watches,
collectible art, wine and cigars are bought as investments or to
simply own them. You see stories all the time of people buying
a Pebble Beach winning car and it disappears into a collection
for 25 years. Or art that hasn't been seen or displayed in 50
years. If a watch isn't worn because it's too valuable does it
lose value? If a Van Gogh isn't put on the wall does the collectability
and rarity disappear? If you can't drink an exceptionally rare
wine or smoke JFK's cigars do they remain collectible? I'd say
yes. The value of something isn't always totally dependent on
it being used as intended when it was created. Automobiles are
routinely displayed as art ... -- Brian E.
