Read in The Subject. Very worth it. He was a perfectionist in every thing he did, to say the least and quite a difficult character to work for. Whatever team he was working for, he made sure he was having lunch at home every single day. That’s why Ferrari built a big design office just for him near his home. Every single car he designed was a winner and a lot of new things he invented (carbon fibre monocoque, paddle shift- at least he perfected it, fly-by wire gas pedal, carbon fibre fire extinguisher- got to read the book for that one, coke-bottle body design, etc, etc) are still on cars today. His Ferrari 640 (coke-bottle body) hangs on a wall at the MOMA in New York. I just finished 2 great books about racing: ENZO FERRARI by Luca Dal Monte and THE PERFECT CAR by John Barnard. I’m taking a break from racing. Tomorrow I’m starting my 3rd book from Anthony Bourdain, A COOK’S TOUR. Enjoy! I just finished the book. Absolutely fantastic. I learned a lot about all the new/exotic materials they have been using in F1 since the 80s. Hey Francis, if you ever see him again, ask him what he thinks of the F1 designs today? That should be interesting to learn his opinion.

Hi Michael
No - he has not been involved in motorport for many years now, but he still has his hand in some other design projects.
He divides his time between his homes in Switzerland and UK, devoting a lot of time to his family.
I have helped in re-uniting him with the current owner of his original Aston Martin DB2/4 which has been restored. You will have read about that car in pages 45-48 of the book. More on that in due course. John is going to drive it for an article in Octame magazine once the restoration is complete. Last I heard the car was at the trimmers, now with a new build AM engine and still a few moths to go till completion.

Superb. Do you know if he is still involved in motor racing in one form or another ? What is he up to ? I just finished the chapter when he starts at Ferrari. I’m very anxious to read the rest. If only they had kept Prost with them ! Who knows ?
