Good intel, something intuitively obvious to think about that I had not yet intuited. :-)

Yes, I absolutely will be using a hydraulic jack. Not only that, but if I have any shot of getting a third car in there (my 57 Bel Air), it will only be if I get four of the GoJack wheel jacks and roll it sideways towards the back, so that's more high pressure/small surface area.

There is 0% chance I could get a lift in there. The previous owners broke out the entire area above the garage and made it an extension to the existing master bedroom, so now we have a really big master bedroom but absolutely no way to "raise the roof" (ceiling) in the garage. It's fairly low.

Once I figure out flooring I'll start thinking about lighting.

Thanks again.

Rick, I'll check out Ucoat-It and consider self-application. I'm all about saving money as long as I know it's a very high quality solution, and if it involves my experience/skillset in this endeavour, it might not be a high quality solution. But I do need to research more. Perhaps I can do it myself confidently.

Hey Matt – congrats on your new digs and oversize garage.

As for floor covering – one question: will you ever use a hydraulic jack?

If yes – present that to the vendor and get some sort of non-chipping guarantee.

Just a precaution.

All,

I'm about to move into a new (well, not brand new) house with a 20'x31' oversized 2 car garage. This is finally my first place where I'll have the place to store my toys and have room to work on them. Please discuss recommendations for garage floor coatings.

I'm leaning towards epoxy because while I could do tiles, the cars WILL leak (1985 Ferrari and 1939 Rolls-Royce are NOT oil tight, in fact the Bijur system on the Rolls is designed to "leak"). I imagine the tiles will leak through and "someday" that entire mess will still be on the concrete beneath.

I'll probably lean towards having a professional do the prep and application because I want to get this done right the first time.

Thoughts? References? I do know how to Google, so I'm really just looking for your personal recommendations.

Thanks

-matt
