I live in California
I am not BLACK... but my car is
Just before my wife died, we took the then 25 year old black Ferrari to a sandwich shop close to the house on a Sunday afternoon. Parking lot was empty.
Just as our food gets brought to us, a young black gent pulls into the same establishment in a new, red, fancy stripes, big wing, bright polished wheels, GT2.
He parks leaving one space between us.
He walks into shop, notices us and gives a glaring, stern nod... (I have no idea what it meant, just remember it)
All of us are eating when a group of kids (12-15 yo) of all shapes and heritage come skateboarding across the parking lot.
The kids begin to gather around the Ferrari.
My wife nudges me and I respond, "yep, saw them".
We're finished so I gather up our trash and head for the door.
Other gent speaks up "those assholes" and storms out the door ahead of me.
By the time he gets to the crowd of kids standing around my car, he's in full anger mode
2 kids have their backs to his car but are toying with their skate boards near his car.
He starts screaming at them to get away from his car.
Then he starts to belittle my car and telling the kids how much more expensive his car is
He again tells them to stay away from his car
He tells them how much faster his car is.
He tells them how much cleaner his car is... (he was right)
Just as we get to the car, one kid snarks back at him.... Yeah, but this IS A FERRARI!
The crowd parted and I opened both doors, asked if anyone wanted to sit in the Ferrari.
They all took turns, some wanted to see the motor.
Other gent goes back in store and back to his meal.
I start the Ferrari... ooohs, ahhhhs
Kids say thanks! and skate off
As they pass the window where the other gent was sitting several in unison yell "douche bag".
And that's the kind of attention you are going to get in a Ferrari... regardless of color
Go with it, or get annoyed by the attention. (Or lack thereof if you buy a Porsche)
