So local data points:

1.  Salt?  Please.  The chance of furries cancels school.
2.  As long as you’re not doing 45 through the middle of a neighborhood, the police are fairly tolerant.  They’d rather set up sobriety check points at 2:00 AM on the main throughways for revenue collection.  If you want to go faster than 100 mph, get your pilots license.
3.  Plenty of decent paved roads here, the Appalachians end mid state.  Head south of Montgomery and it’s basically like driving in north Florida.  Porsche’s track school is at Barber.  Fantastic course and facility (hell, there is hot water in the bathrooms by pit lane!)

I think Lashdeep's spot on.

  1. Particularly in the northeast.  What the road salt did to some of my cars when I lived in Syracuse was pretty horrific.  In the end, one of them couldn't even pass inspection due to structural degradation from the salt corrosion.
  2. This is really hit or miss.  I hear/read an awful lot of complaining about the VA state police attitudes, but I don't see it myself.  I'm no longer concerned about whether or not I can get away with 100mph - I just want to "win the game" of keeping my hard earned $$$ in my pocket, not turning them over to "Uncle Ralphie".
  3. This is a big one for me.  Dad brought his vintage Jags to FL at different times, but stopped doing that because the roads down there were so utterly BORING.  No fun places at all to drive those cars.  At least that's not a problem here.
As usual, FWIW, YMMV, yadda yadda....

Good article, thanks for sending it.

Here are some other criteria that may interest us-

1. Salt use
2. Police attitude
3. Some sort of ?fun factor? to the roads
