Can Am was the greatest series!!!
Actually, TA was pretty cool too.
A few clarifications-
Shelby/Ford won their class ahead of the 250GTOs at LM ‘64 and were 4th overall.
The 250P won the race that year.
They did get beat and had failures in ‘65 when a 250LM won.
‘66 was the first win for Ford with the GT MkII using the 7.0 liter.
‘67 - another win for Ford using the MkIV 7.0.
‘68 - Ford GT Mk1 win in chassis 1075.
‘69 - another win in the exact same chassis 1075.
BTW- the Ford GT was developed and wind tunnel tested in the DC area as well as in Slough.
George It was a different era back then If you remember the US was in the middle of the Vietnam War It was shades of what we have now with MAGA vs the anti war movement The Cold War was in full bloom American flags on construction sites You name it The CanAm series was the thing I could go on and on Bottom line Ford wanted to play on the international scene And they thought is was like NASCAR Initially they got their ass handed to them at LeMans But they eventually won it in 1968 It was Fords version of a moon landing!

Clyde,
You're right, I don't remember it, even though I was born well before it. I am acquainted with the story, however. It's not unknown, even among us "younger" racing fans.
But my real point was that I don't really care much for these bio-pics, where A- or B-list actors are recruited to play characters much, MUCH larger-than-life than they themselves are (Enzo, Shelby, Ford, etc.). Christian Bale's attempt at whatever that
accent was supposed to be seemed horribly fake. Yes, it's not about accents, it's the story - but if the actors and characters are not believable or somewhat realistic, it's going to ruin the movie for me. And don't even get me started on how horribly video-gamish
the crash scenes looked! Ugh....
Further what was not clear was if there was a position the film is attempting to take (i.e. Ford the "big bad guy" beating up on Ferrari the "underdog, the little guy"? or a "pro-'murica rah-rah Ford for beatin' up on those durn furriners"?)? Regardless,
a position I'm pretty sure the film will NOT take is that it took a corporation with the might and bank account of FoMoCo to *finally* beat the tiny manufacturer Ferrari at their own game - and what that *really* says about each company! (guessing this was
your real point... wink wink...)
Or, if I may quote our friend BHD, "I could be completely wrong...."
Thanks!

Most of you on this list
Don’t even remember or were even born when that battle took place!
It was 1968 at LeMans
And Ford finally won it after Ferrari had beaten then many times .

I think this will be good - can't remember the last time I saw a good comedy.
