Scottie notes “Car [911 widebody] was a hoot to drive and never failed to function.  Can’t say that about any of the other exotics I’ve owned or cared for.”

True true.  A long long time ago I fell into buying the 529th Porsche 356 ever built.  1300 split window.  Bought it in San Francisco and drove it to Los Angeles without a problem.  In 1975 a fellow and I drove a 904-002 from San Antonio TX to San Francisco.  No problem.

I must say – I do NOT have a very large confidence radius with out 45,000 mile 1978 308 GTS.  When only a few months old to me 25 years ago I nearly burned it to the ground when the coolant reservoir cap Lost its grip and boiled glycol onto the hot headers – Poooof – fire.  Later we lost half the engine due to a screwed up dizzy and today it sits with a dead fuel delivery system and melted fuse board.  I do have Birdman’s fuse board fix but I saw a similar fix using the newer mini fuses and not the NLA glass fuses.  Gotta find out where that came from.

I guess I should STOP saying that there are two words that make owning a vintage Ferrari possible – and those are: Cell Phone.

On the other hand while I am not superstitious because that brings bad luck I really do think our 308 can read my mind – just like the cavllino rampante with fire in his eye.

Onward

Doug
