Rick, sounds like that was a fun drive.

Any pics of the car?

We put about 20K on it...   he probably did 2/3 of that.
The only real trip I made was in early 85.  I flew commercial to LAS and drove it to Fallon...  Cruised over 90mph up 395 with no problems.

Wow!

That is a wild story. Did you and your brother drive it much before its demise?

My Brother and I had an '82 S3 that the previous owner had done an excellent turbo rework on.  He worked for Garrett Motion since the days when they were Honeywell. (He liked it but really wanted a Europa.)  The S3 scooted along nicely without any freaky turbo power bands like the 930.   Of all the cars I've had and sold it is one I honestly wish I still had.  Sadly, my brother sold it to a jerk who ran it off HWY 15 into the desert near Jean in a drug induced frenzy while I was still flying Navy on the East Coast.   He tore all 4 corners off the car and while he was figuring out how to get it to LA (he called my brother for ideas, Jim told him to pound sand) to get it fixed someone stole the motor and the most of the interior.   It was White but if you looked closely it sat there in the desert for about 6 years before someone finally hauled it away.   Five months after he wrecked it, the LAPD called my brother about the car being stolen and he told them where to find it... and gave them a copy of the Nevada release of liability dated 16 weeks prior to it being reported stolen.    The jerk did some jail time on insurance fraud.   Somewhere, someone has a really nice turbo Esprit motor... possibly with a crushed sump pan.. It may have been the Jerk stealing his own motor.   His last name was Bentley, no kidding.

Rick, what year Esprit did you have?

I just drove a ZR1 a few months ago and it was quite different to what I was expecting.

Everyone said they sqeak and rattle and didn’t handle, etc.

I drove a one owner example with 50k miles on it. I didn’t hear any squeaks or rattles at all with the roof on.

Also, I found the handling to be very good and moderate speed (80-90mph) stability to be excellent.

It did feel heavy though...

Seats were just superb...maybe one of the best OEM stock pieces I have ever sat in.

Ugliest steering wheel I have ever seen too!

My Esprit driving experiences were a long time ago. I have about 30 min in an ‘89 SE and about two hours in an X180R.

I liked the chassis on both but the engines and transmissions were disappointing.

G Body Esprit styling is legendary though!
