They had very reliable engines in the war

They ran out of fuel and resources 

They pioneered synthetic fuels and lubricants 

The  single engine FW-109 was the fighter until the P-38 showed up with 2 engines!

Their 2 engine JU-88 bomber was as fast as our P-47 and it was a bomber!

And there tanks were diesel run not gas like our were which would catch fire and incinerate the crew when hit
