Good Job Michel Hmmmm – not as thick. Looks just like fiber carpet pad stuff. It’s not like it needs to be fire proof. Go to a carpet place and see if they can match it. After all, it’s under the vinyl . . . leather? If it does have some sort of aluminum foil use your stuff on top of it. The thickest carpet pad I’ve seen is 7/16 to ½ inch. So double it? Yep. No biggy – no ones gonna see it. Sort of like the trunk in your cars boot. Get into that and the good parts book show 87 layers (sic) that and board. Right above the muffler. No place for your Hersey chocolate statues. Dynamat is some sort of flexible foil/tar combo thing. Put down correctly it nullifies body vibrations and keeps you sane instead of feeling like you’re living in a guitar. Keep us posted. Doug PS – under the trunk, above the muffler, and nearly impossible to get to - - - look for body rusted out spots. Muffler heat/water/untreated steel? Rust worms. Yummy. From: Ferrari <ferrari-bounces+dnt=dock.net [at] ferrarilist.com> On Behalf Of Michel Savard 1981 308 GTSi, I finally removed the moulding (2 long black pieces and 1 small piece in the middle holding everything together with glue. Somebody mentioned the screw for the middle piece had to be unscrewed from the engine bay. I could not see how this could be done at all. But as soon as I played with it, I noticed it was not holding onto anything. I guess the nut fell off years ago (see picture). When I’m through, I’ll just put the 3 pieces back and those pieces are so tight back there they just hold on by themselves. Question #1: My insulation is much thinner than what is on the car (see picture). Should I double it ? Or should I buy the right stuff as soon as possible ? Somebody mentioned Dynamat. Question #2: I think I need to get the whole seat belt off. The top screw was easy, but in the middle you the black plastic cover hiding the everything. The carpet (black cloth) is squeeze behind it. How do I get it undone ? Thank you! Michael Savard (1981 308 GTSi) |
