A friend of mine (amateur race driver) was hired by Jerry to drive the W8 around Laguna Seca
for some parade and hot laps, in 1990 I think. Don't remember if "customers" were allowed to
ride along. He had a non-disclosure agreement meaning he WAS NOT allowed to talk to the media.
I asked him his thoughts about the car later. I don't remember the specifics, but there was a list.

I remember the articles in period talking about using aerospace materials and approaches thinking that’s so cool.

Now that I work in aerospace all I can think is what a stupid idea.

Brings back quite a few memories of reading R&T’s various stories on the car back in the early ‘90s (plus all the other wacky and zany “hypercars” of that era).

The first time I saw a Vector in real life was both the “regular” version and the evolution model, the “WX-8” at a car show at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, back in 1992. Lots of cool machinery on display at that event too. I’ve got film pictures of it all somewhere...

The Vectors were roped off so no one could get anywhere near them, so I couldn’t judge the build quality as you pointed out Hans. I find that odd as the car was touted as being built like a fighter aircraft, utilizing actual components from defence sources (and justifiably ramped-up costs). They definitely looked the part, although was already showing it’s age – the design first began as a concept back in 1978.

I never considered the SBC to be a bad point of the car, but I did have a problem with it using a automatic. That, to me, lost credibility as a supercar.

Ron Tonkin (Portland Ferrari dealer) had one.  I thought the build
quality was appalling. They said at anything above highway speeds, the
windshield was wanting to come out.  Thought it was odd that what was
promoted as the ultimate supercar had a small block Chevy in it.  And
a three speed auto, which was likely a TH400.

Curious feature was the bench seats.  Wiegert apparently wanted the
car to be usable for "romantic encounters".  Wouldn't be too terribly
romantic if the driver ended up in the passenger's lap on fast left
hand corners......
