1980 Ferrari 308 GTBi #31879
$84,950
We are pleased to offer 1980 308 GTBi s/n 31879, a 7,075 ultra-low mile US model 308 GTBi finished in magnificent Blu Sera paint with exceptionally nice Crema leather that runs and drivers as-new; thanks to a major service and the tuning needed to pass California's draconian smog test. Only 10 months ago, in May 2020, 308 GTBi s/n 31879 was serviced by Davis Autosports in Richmond, VA, their work including a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing, all new brake pads and rotors, a new engine main rear seal, a new smog pump, minor paint touchup, all-new BF Goodrich 205/70 VR tires, plus a removal and steam clean of the cloth headliner, engine bay and carpets. The total invoice was $14,705.00 at 6,922 miles. Upon arriving in California 308 GTBi s/n 31879 was serviced by Ferrari Technologies in Orange CA on 05 June, who repaired the seat track, rebuild the fuel accumulator and installed a new fuel pump. The total invoice was $2,417.69 at 6,953 miles. Ferrari Technologies also checked the cold start, checked the ignition connections, cleaned the ECU connections, cleaned the TDC sensor contacts and installed coil wire boots. The total invoice was $600.00 at the same 6,953 miles. 308 GTBi s/n 31879 passed California smog on 09 June at 6,959 miles. On 14 July Ferrari Technologies installed a new speedo generator. The invoice was $528.97 at 6,970 miles. We have all invoices and a clean Carfax that documents the ultra-low mileage on file, e-mail us for copies.

When introduced in October of 1975 at the Paris Auto Salon, the Pininfarina designed 308 GTB was an elegant replacement for the much-missed 246 GT. Thanks to the lines penned by Pininfarina designer Leonardo Fioravanti the 308 GTB continued the exotic yet curvaceous lines shown in Fioravanti’s earlier 206 and 246 GT, 365 GTB/4 Daytona and 365 BB Berlinetta Boxer. As a replacement for the 246 GT, the 308 GTB was the first of Ferrari’s higher-volume, smaller-engine V-8 Belinettas, meant to appeal to a larger market than the flagship V-12s, and the first of the long line of V8 Ferraris that have evolved into today’s massively commercially successful V8 Ferraris.

Mechanically, 308 GTBi s/n 31879's transversely mounted, 3.0 liter, 4-cam, injected V8 starts instantly, idles smoothly and pulls easily to redline. The suspension, brakes, and electrical system are fully sorted. The gearbox works as-new, with excellent synchros. Everything in the front compartment, from the air horns and fans to the washer bottle and windshield washer pump show as near-new. The engine and transaxle are nicely detailed, have been steam cleaned and show well. The rear trunk compartment has the correct carpets and vinyl zipper cover that opens and closes smoothly.

Cosmetically 308 GTBi s/n 31879 presents extremely nicely. The older paint is very high quality and because the body has been block sanded, the paint is too a higher quality than when new. Thanks to the early 308s clever door latches, the doors open and shut with a finger light touch and the front hood and deck lid open and close with ease. 308 GTBi s/n 31879  sits on a set of excellent and correctly sized set of new BF Goodrich 205/70 VR tires mounted on an excellent set of 7 1/2 x 14 Campagnolo wheels. The interior is exceedingly nice for what is now a forty year old Ferrari and confirms the low miles. All lens and glass are in excellent condition.

1980 308 GTBi s/n 31879 has only 7,075 miles, for an average of a mere 175 miles per year over the last forty years, features a gorgeous color combination, runs like a new Ferrari and comes with the original owner's and dealer listing books, with their original cloth bound pouch, a warranty card (from a slightly later car); the jack kit, tire iron and lug wrench with the jack bag, and is fitted with an original “California” driver's side mirror. This low-mile 308 GTBi is quite likely one of the best examples of the GTBi in existence. Having accrued only 175 miles per year on average, this injected 308 is ready-to-go for an owner who wants to experience it to the fullest on the show field or the open road. A modestly priced entry at Ferrari Club of America events, weekend Cars & Coffee gatherings, or as a Pride of Ownership in the owners garage. Priced to sell at $84,950 or best offer.
