I had the Mitsubishi Starion with the 4G63 motor, intercooled turbo for my daily driver.  Not all wheel drive like the VR4, but it was a rocket.  Loved that car.

I bought it, I made all the payments on it.  But, going through a divorce with wife1, the court awarded her the car... temporarily, because I had a company car and she had lent her car to her brother, who wrecked it...   In some universe that makes sense.    I kept trying to get the car back.  Not paying attention (she was good at that) she hit 3 or 4 pressure treated 4x4s that fell off a truck in front of her while traveling above the speed limit on the Freeway (she was good at that too).   A month in the shop and many thousands of dollars later she got the car back.  I went to the shop and talked to the tech, he said "you do NOT want that car back".
Went back to court knowing if she got the car permanently, she also got the last 2 years of payments.  I told the judge I wanted it back, she said she wanted to keep it...  argue, argue...  I reluctantly (snicker) agreed to let her keep the car if she takes the payments.  Judge said she had to take the payments if she took the car... awarded her the car AND told her she owed me half the equity... which his clerk worked out to $4600.   That was way more than my half of what we were into on the car.   Sometimes judges having stupid young clerks is a good thing.  $4600 was a C-note more than the 18 months of spousal support I was ordered to pay.    Car was gone, but so was she AND she OWDED ME $100...   never did get it.  Oh well.  It served it's purpose.  Still miss that car.

Yup. We still have my dad’s Mitsubishi 3000GT-VR4 which was part of that generation of Japanese performance car. Outstanding machine. We also used to have its twin, the Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo that was my mom’s.

I am also partial to the 2+2. This is my 1983 Datsun/Nissan 280ZX 2+2. I owned its twin in high school, sold it, regretted it, and then bought this one a few years back for less than the cost of parts for a 30K service on the TR.  😊

It was what was available and he wanted to get one before prices starting getting really out of hand.

His ideal example would be a 2+2 Turbo. I’d go for a 2+2 as well (although not a Turbo) as I find the shape looks better with the longer wheelbase.

We both grew up during this era of cars and naturally we’re both drawn to them. I remember when they came out and just fell in love with the design and the advanced spec, as it was a radical departure from the previous generation. It still looks great and modern today.

The foreman is back from holidays and with another crew member taking time off, I volunteered to take his place.

Is it wrong as a subordinate to drive a more valuable car than your boss?

It’s an interesting comparison because these two cars are pretty evenly matched performance wise. Doesn’t matter, we’re both having fun...
