Lots of good commentary on the likely cause. I have one comment: Some years ago I was living on the Boston North Shore, near Beverly Airport. A doctor was flying is family back from their summer home in NH about an hour after sunset. He flew twin twin engine plane right into the ground about 1 mile short of the runway killing all 4. Apparently the tower was screaming at him for the last few minutes telling hin that he was too low. Rather than thanking the tower, he argued with them, all the way into the ground. A comment from the tower controller was something like "I hate doctor and lawyer pilots, all they want to do is argue when you are trying to help them". He crashed right into the Topsfield Fairgrounds, the week after the Topsfiled Fair, about 2 miles form our house.

Hey, professor, when you are done learnin me bout drag, can you edumacate me again about electric cars?
I have yet to see a link to a video showing a dead engine. Perhaps you can post it. I have read from other people who claim to see video showing both engines running. I also saw someone post this:
"Based on flightradar24, something bad happened just a few minutes prior to the crash. At 1910Z the aircraft had descended to 3900ft in level flight heading 267 degrees. Then at 1911Z the aircraft is in a decent at 2000ft/min and turns right to 300 degrees. Flies on that heading descending at 3100ft/min then climbing at 2000ft/min. At 1912Z aircraft begins a shallow right turn descending at 2100ft/min and again climbs at 1900ft/min then descends at 3126ft/min at 225kts heading 097 degrees - last recorded position at 1914Z. I would guess a medical issue with the pilot and the passenger was in panic mode not knowing how to fly the aircraft."
I also saw someone claim that this flight was a test flight for a newly installed auto pilot system. Could just be a coincidence. Boss Listen Stevie Wonder who is blind can ascertain after watching the video that since 1. It was definitely a twin engine plane( that means for you 2 engines) 2. He was well into flight, had not crashed just after takeoff, so he had enough thrust( for you that power) to get off the ground and maintain flight 3. After getting air borne you can see the slow roll to the left until impact, which means the left engine failed, he didn’t feather it( for you that mean putting the prop in it’s least drag position, you have to look up drag on your own) so that caused the airplane to roll into the dead engine, or he did everything right but put in the incorrect rudder inputs which is just a deadly.
No radio call because he was most likely stunned that this occurred and panic set in instead of training.
So Rick and Luke how did I do?

I still haven't seen anything that confirms an engine failure. And it is strange that the pilot never said anything at the end. That audio was edited, right? Maybe they edited the end out. Here's the audio between the pilot and ATC, very disoriented.
Couldn't find anything on cabin heat source, but since 1975 they've had an AD on exhaust system maintenance, there was some mention of fuel management, but the consensus was no problem if you know what you're doing. "And if you have only one locker tank (common on 340s), remember to use crossfeed; dump all 120 pounds from a locker into one tip tank, and the imbalance will be enough to upset even your autopilot."

If you look at the video of the crash he was airborne for quite a while and had sufficient altitude to recover if he knew what to do
Most likely never practiced an engine failure at takeoff
He basically flew the airplane to the scene of the crash with power
You cant tell doctors a damn thing they know everything
It's the plight of many GA pilots...
Get a plane, have fun, go places
Get a bigger plane, multi engine, take more people with you, go faster
One engine failure, asymmetric thrust
Don't know how to correct yaw and lift changes in asymmetric condition
First to the scene of the crash.
It was a real problem with the Turkey (more so than Clyde's Rhino) because the engines were so far apart. But, so were the HUGE Vertical tails... for that reason. Center hull carried the Phoenix, so worth the trade-off.
Can't image what it was like for the SR-71 guys.
Engines much further apart, and one goes from sucking hundreds of thousands of cubic feet of air to brick wall in an instant.
And someday, some day... Erik is really going to explain an "unstart" to me.
OK, I know WHAT it is, I still don't fully understand how an "unstart" happens.
There is video of the plane in the air and banking hard left into the ground
He was flying
New Video Shows Moment Plane Crashed in Santee Neighborhood Killing Doctor, UPS Driver – NBC 7 San Diego (nbcsandiego.com)
I am pretty sure he wasn't airborne or flying anymore when he crashed.
Do we know he had an engine failure?
Pretty much
It was a 2 engine airplane that could have flown on 1 engine
He was airborne and flying when he crashed
Looks like an engine failure with a wrong rudder recovery to me

I see. Do we know this was pilot error?
Aviation ensures that mistakes aren’t repeated. Usually because the offender doesn’t live to do it again.
Self cleansing? What does that mean?
