Too cool.
I'd seen that years ago, in auto-shop class... 75, 76?  but not since.

Thanks AJ.

Kind of fitting that Rod Emory posted this on Instagram today:

Anti rust factory protection - - - Porsche.

In 1970 – 71 they treated the underbody panels with galvanized sheet metal and gave it a 6 year warranty.

Later in the early 80’s by then they had included the entire body and upped the rust protection to about 10 years.

At the factory, they had an “experimental” yard car.  All galvanized steel, no paint, and was kept outside 24/7.

Workers used it as a yard taxi.  It may still be there . . . and no rust. Rain, snow, and wind.  Good shape – not concours.

Downside – repairs.  First, during sanding it creates a hazardous work environment.  Secondly, unless recoated – THERE’s the weak spot. And thirdly – and I defer to the chemists, engineers, and know-it-alls here, welding the metal causes gases that aren’t good for humans either.

All in a days work.  Just don’t crunch your car and happy motoring.

Lastly, I can’t imagine Ferrari doesn’t use this technology too – as well as Clyde’s Yugo.  You don’t really have a Yugo do you Clyde?

It's great to see these types or restorations being done. With the materials, readily available information, resources and knowledge available today, as well as owners willing to pay for it makes it feasible. A car like that is well worth the premium, as the cost and time involved usually can not be recuperated in a sale price. These were few and far between years ago as owners did not want to invest more than the book value into vehicles, especially when a major service cost was more than the vehicles value.

The shop completely restored 5 and freshened up a couple more. Every stud, nut, bolt was replated.

Even made new A/C hoses in house.

Took out the fiberglass floor/front bulkhead for repair while the bare shell was sent out for a chemical dip/strip.

Even duplicated the red fibers visible in the original fiberglass when replacing or repairing. Made new aluminum belly

pans in house. Hade new correct Euro spec mufflers made. Everything we did was x5. OCD times 5.

Even restored the very first 308gt4, s/n 7202. Amazing to see all the ongoing development throughout the series

with bare shells sitting side by side on rotisseries. #7202 had the oval chassis tubing in the rear configured in such

a way as it appeared they were attempting or thinking about a non-transverse mounting of the engine.

Hopefully Rob and Mr. Keegan will chime in here. Rob’s second was a nut and bolt restoration that Brian ran to ground in the parts collection. Guy in Florida did several and the process was amazing. Essentially a brand new GT4 built in 201? I think Brian said the guy in Florida did 3 of them?

I have been meaning to ask you, when did you buy your second? There was one for sale in LA in the summer of 2020. Just curious if you bought it.
