Peter, your answer is the generally accepted nomenclature however the origins of the idea lie elsewhere.

Detomaso used this paint scheme on their factory Group 4 FIA competition cars in 1971 many years before the BBs were introduced.

Before that?

There was the Bordinat Detomaso Mangusta that predated the Group 4 racers…maybe a trial run?

Also, there was a Monteverdi Hai in this paint scheme but it is was all one colour when built and later adopted the black lower trim after 1971.

So, I always answer with “Boxer trim” at FCA events but think “Detomaso trim”.

It’s the Boxer paint trim. It was to give it a familial look to the showroom, as all of the two-seater line-up could have that option (which was standard on the 365/512 Boxers, as you well know why).
