My late friend who owned an Alfa Montreal never minced his words. He had many cool cars, but most of them were projects, the Montreal was no exception, but was the closest to being a running car he had in his collection (the biggest/worst was a Maserati Ghibli). He got it going and enjoyed it for a few years before selling it. We talked at length about it’s “quirks” and he said: “You know, the Italians were great for creating the undersides of valve covers – which you never see and serve no real purpose – as art forms and could be used to support a bridge and yet they use a piece of wire rope to drive a critical component like a water pump”...

Clever Peter but, um, ever so un-Ferrari.  Really. 

 

I mean for instance those factory F106 engine engineers put a lot of put time in deciding where to place the oil filter such that at oil change time it could spew dirty oil all through the top of the engine valley should you not puncture the filter first before removing or failure to place the correct internal flap filter after an oil change.

 

And now this . . . no more hot greasy antifreeze coolant all over the place.

 

Oh well.  Nicely done tho.  Commendable.  My 2do list grows.  :  )

George, I swapped out my Thermostat housing for a later type as well, but I never liked their bolt bleeder. Coolant would get all over the housing and mess up the top of the block (no matter how many rags I’d wrap around the base of the housing.

 

I checked and the boss on top had enough meat to drill and tap a 1/8 NPT thread. I bought these brake bleeder kits at a local hardware supply store and installed it. Now, I don’t spill a drop – I connect a small piece of nylon tubing over to a small plastic bowl and the coolant runs cleanly into it...
