If you want to get bang for buck, get a crate Coyote engine.

Technology has moved on, you can get a Camry with over 300 hp. Nothing like dropping $100k on an old 308 and still having a soccer mom smoke you on a freeway on-ramp.

Back in the old days, just one bad tank of gas could take down even the best turbo system.

Plenty of usage factors to keep in mind.

Isn’t it amazing how good a platform the 308 is for forced induction?

Building a normally aspirated hot rod is really low on the $/HP scale.

I know of 3 ventilated blocks that had Norwood systems.
All 3 are back on the road today, sans turbos.

Abuse is a relative term, but I'll agree the transaxles will take a bit of punishment, the twill gears... not so much.

Transaxle is fine if you don’t abuse it.

No experience with the Koenig setups but the Norwood ones are aging well.

A modern single turbo would be a lighter and less complicated solution with minimal lag.
