Rob, wonderful way to offset a Ferrari or two in the garage!
I recently saw a Prius with the bumper sticker that read "Saving gas to buy more guns!"
To each their own.

All,

I had 8 panels on my garage that generated my entire electrical consumption, we added a hot tub so we added 12 newer panels which will now generate 3 times my yearly usage. My sister and BIL built dragster parts and with 50 panels ran a 4 person machine shop with 2 CNC machines. Their place burnt down during a massive fire caused by our electrical company's wires 4 years ago. If everyone in the country had panels at least it would be a start! The newer panels are more efficient than the other ones. Of course I bought the best ones I could afford just like the Ferrari! We are fighting now as the CA PUC wants to charge $60 a month just to connect to the grid and supply them clean energy which they pay pennies on the dollar for our excess generation….

Thats one of my ways of justifying my pollution from the Ferrari by trying to help out around the edges.

Rob

Have to generate power to run the lights!!!!

The figure of merit for a solar panel is something like: 1KW per square
meter, at the equator, at noon, times the efficiency of the solar panel
which is around 3%. This is around 30 Watts. So, as they say, powers a small
fan. Without looking it up, a recharge is about 30 min at 30 KW! That is
why, to replace a 1 unit reactor, you have to cover the state of RI with
solar panels.
