Yeah, I understood it that way as well.
But the irony of him complaining, despite the fact it made him ultra rich, is a bit rich.
It reminds me of an interview with one of the members of Nirvana (I think Kris Noveselic [sp?]) bringing this topic up when questioned about it, saying in a sarcastic way that (they) “...would sing and dance and whore themselves...” for
the record company. Not something that they wanted to do, but didn’t turn it down either. Don’t get me wrong, I love Nirvana and their songs. I’ll always be saddened for the loss of Kurt, I’m happy for the success of Dave and it seems Kris is content with
living a normal life (I think he ran for some political position in Seattle politics a while ago).

I took that to mean not the drivers, but that big manufacturers (Ferrari & Mercedes) can buy special favors, can affect rules etc. with money. Rich owners can buy their kids seats in cars.

Great. A professional athlete worth nine figures complaining about how money is ruining the sport...

Kimi is known for being a bit more frugal than most of his
competitors. Estimates are that he's worth $250M, near the top of the
list of retired F1 drivers. That estimate is, of course, a bit
"squishy", but based on known real estate, possessions, and business
ventures.
