And it was used as the safety car. A race car caught fire and to see the 348 show up and two stooges try to figure out where the fire extinguishers were was funny!

I do. Growing up during the ‘80s, Ferrari developed some pretty cool prototypes during that time and I had many favorites. Tops on my list are the 408 4WD and the PPG Pace Car and both of those from day one were criticized for being “ugly”... Both cars had very low Cd numbers (if I remember correctly were in the low 0.2 something range) which was quite an achievement for that time. Composites, four wheel drive, aluminum chassis, etc, stuff way ahead of it’s time. The only people criticizing the looks were the old-fart dinosaurs. The same group that panned anything that had less than 12 cylinders and wasn’t designed by Pinninfarina (WTF? BFD!). I thought they looked amazing and would hope it would lead to future design themes. Any magazine or book that featured those cars, I bought it...

I got to see that PPG Pace Car in real life about ten years ago as it was purchased by a Seattle businessman/ philanthropist. I believe it’s still a part of his collection to this day. He opened up his collection to the FCA members for a private tour and there was no way I was going to miss that! It’s a real cool car and is very impressive in person. Not only was it a special one-off but it was also the prototype for the 348 drivetrain. If the opportunity to buy that car would come up, I will get it in an instant.

You appreciate unique and history.  Not everyone does.  Some people need a car that affirms to themselves and everyone else that they are still young and "the man".

You’re taking it at face value. It’s not “ugly”, it’s the camouflage they put on the car as it was a prototype. It’s supposed to be “ugly”.

It could be driven but that’s not the point of this. It’s a collectible. It’s the only one they made.
