My '85 K100RS, if left on the side stand would leave a 'two stroke' trail of 
smoke for a mile or two before cleaning out. Later ones had the piston rings 
pinned so that they couldn't rotate into a gap down position. I just used the 
center stand, that kept the smoking to a minimum.

It is normal for that specific engine (Flat and 180 deg V) layout.
 
911s, older BMW bikes and others all do the same.
