Yes, the centerstand took technique, wasn't bad once mastered. One day I did the foot on the stand, left hand on the bars, right on the handle, gave my usual pull and was flailing around with the handle in the air. Didn't drop the bike, got a friend to TIG the handle mount back on the frame and Bob was my uncle. The centerstand was a bear to use because the bike was so heavy. It did have a nice retractable handle for that purpose.
