Along the lines of what Erik posted, when I talked to the original owner of my GT4, he said it would be his first Ferrari, but at the time, he had a Corvette and had just bought a house... He traded in the ‘Vette AND took a second mortgage just to buy the 308! I have the bill of sale and it was marked at $22K (that was in June 1976)!

Love that cover!!! What a great lineup. I would be happy with all three of them.

So buyers were ready to spend $25k in 1975 for the car but not an extra $25/mo for insurance?

I think the extra room was for proper Euro touring and baggages more closely matching the layout of cars like the 911.

It was no myth, I was of car buying age then. Any 2 seater was considered a sports car and insurance coverage was more $$ than a 4 door,

Ferrari, Maserati & Lamborghini made a niche vehicle for this time. And the owners cared as these were entry level cars…

Of course the Ferrari was the best car but the bumper had to go!

I heard the same too. Wonder why the well to do customer buying those cars new would care about insurance rates?

Or fuel economy, crash test peformance, luggage capacity, maintenance costs, etc.

But then you’d lose the rear seats...

Jokes aside, I don’t know if it was urban myth, or actual regulation, but all of these types of “sports” cars that had rear seats, wasn’t that so it wouldn’t qualify as a “sports” car and therefore have a lower insurance rate?
