I changed the rod clip (see picture with black rod clip above the arrow). The problem was the clip, BUT after not inserting my key in the lock for almost 10 years, that lock got very dirty maybe rusted inside. The first time I inserted the key, it wouldn’t move at all. LOTS of lubricant later and many left right motions later, it finally slowly started to turn. With lots of cleaning and lubricants on parts around all the mechanism inside the doors, after a while I finally made it work after 10-15 minutes. Now here is why I still need help: I need to turn, very very slowly/still tough to turn, the key 7/8 of a turn before it locks and unlocks both doors. That’s not normal. Also, I can see the outer chromed ring part of the lock moving. Still not normal- when you turn the key only the inner part of the key hole should move. When I turn the key and look inside the door at the same time, I can clearly see the large nut (see picture top right) turning. I tightened it, but it still moves. I guess that’s why it takes a long time (7/8 of a turn) before it locks and unlocks both doors. What should I do ? Take the lock out and try to clean it ? Keep adding lubricant until it works normally ? Now for the passenger door: This is worst because my key goes in only 1/4”. Nothing I can do with it. I tried lots of lubricants, etc. WHILE I’M THERE: The black ramps that keeps the window straight when moving up and down has some sort of felt material (easy to see on picture) to keep the glass from scratching. Mine are very dirty, oily and even is unglued for about 5” on the driver’s side. Has anybody ever changed those without taking the ramps off the door ? Michael Savard (1981 308 GTSi) ![]() ![]() |
