Picture this – non-fitting fuel sleeve? In 1967, Indy Raceway, Richie Ginther was practicing with Dan Gurney’s AAR team at Indy for the Indy 500.
During practice, going down the back straight, a fuel line broke and soaked him with fuel. He politely pulled over, rather quickly tho, got out of the car, took all his clothes off and retired, as a driver, on the spot.
Loose fuel lines = a stinko garage and, better yet, fire. The gift that keeps on giving.

(ps – got to drive a 296 up the Pacific Coast Hwy. it’s a rocket. And sounds even better when the electric motor quits to recharge and the IC motor cuts in.)

Yes, something like this should have been caught while assembling pre-production cars, but assembly-line people are not mechanics.
At least the doors didn't fall off the car while driving... Yet.
