It’s my everyday chair

From what I heard from guys who flew the F-14
In a spin with the F-14 the canopy would hover a little over the 2 seats during a sequence ejection if the aircraft was in a spin
The seats come out very quickly with the rear seat going out first
Hence that seat hitting the hovering canopy and breaking the neck of that officer
Later on after several spin incidents the crews were told to manually
Jettison the canopy in a spin, wait then eject
I got this from the book Top Gun

In the movie Top Gun Goose is killed when he hit the canopy on ejection. We’re the devil’s horns not in use in the 1980’s or was that part of the artistic license to fill in a story plot line?

Clyde: Do you really use that seat as an office chair or is it part of the decor? Looks uncomfortable as Hell but maybe you experience more g forces at your desk than I do!  😉

It was a Fallon,

Didn't know where to put his hands...
Held onto the wrong thing, Pilot went inverted (cabin check), he flinched and pulled to stay in the seat.  Bye-bye.
Good chute, few scratches on his face and walked away.

Yea I heard it was at Fallon and it was a civilian who thought he was adjusting the seat when he pulled the lower handle

I'm sure you know what this was...
And why we let the RIO punch his own ticket or the Pilot could initiate both.
Ooops.

The RIO could rotate the handle and make a dual or just him ejecting

Most crews left it in the dual mode

It was the safest way to fly in my opinion

These were in the D model.

Did you have a mode change on the ejection sequence?

You know I wondered about hat with regards to canopy breakers

But I have to tell you that explosive charge that blew that canopy clear was something else

I don’t know what that thing weighed but I bet it isn’t light

Too funny, Col Graves.  He could punch out through the sky-light in his office.

Ick, Clyde... that thing doesn't look comfortable at all.  A lot of advancements between the MB-7 and the GRU-7A I sat in.   This is the early version.  Later versions (after I left)  had the canopy breakers (devil's horns) just in case.
