How long did you crank it on that first try? I would imagine if it was a little hesitant to start and it cranked for a while it might have heated up more and more until.....pop....

This morning, I took the fuses/relays cover off and could see the Fuel Pump Fuse was brownish. Thank you Gary for telling me to check this first. I took the ‘defrost’ fuse (15A) off and put it in the Fuel Pump slot. The 308 started right away like a brand new car. I had a beautiful 2 hour-drive around the suburbs of Montreal with very little traffic. Put new gas in and parked it._________________________________________________________________I also changed the female lead and the white plastic cover since this had turned brownish too from the heat. Now I have a question: When I parked the car for the winter in november, that fuse was good. Why after sitting for almost 6 months, it suddenly decided to blow up at the first crank yesterday ?Michael Savard (1981 308 GTSi)On Apr 21, 2025, at 12:55 PM, Mark <misc [at] 308systems.com> wrote:Pull the fuel line and see if it squirts out gas when you crank the engine...I had a similar problem and the issue was simply that the fuel pump ground wire had vibrated looseOn Apr 21, 2025, at 7:29 AM, George <ygpz4re [at] hotmail.com> wrote:_________________________________________________________________It sure sounds like fuel pump, but I'm no expert.... Were you also able to check for spark? But WRT battery - in the old Jag, I finally ditched the lead/acid batteries (it had 2 ginormous 6V batteries in series, and + ground!) for an Odyssey Extreme dry-cell AGM sealed battery. The car has an on-board tender which gets plugged in whenever the car is parked. Never an issue anymore with cranking that big old engine over.Good luck - sorry to hear that you're parting ways with it. While I don't miss the expense, I do miss the driving of my (Steve's) old 308.gp

Subject: [Ferrari] Battery is now charged..... no sparks at all, no
smell of gas either.
I finally got my battery fully charged. Remember my problem last friday ?
I turned the key this morning and just heard ?wam wam wam?.? No sparks at all. No smell of gas either. In 23 years of starting my Ferrari after a long winter it ALWAYS started after the first or second turn of key without giving it any gas at all.
For half an hour I tried, I gave it gas every now and then. Nothing, just the sound of the engine turning. I gave up after half an hour
Only thing I can guess by instinct is the fuel pump is not working. The gas tank is about 7/8 full. What else?
I called my mechanic, lucky for me he has the exact same 308. I?ll have the Ferrari towed to his garage tomorrow.
I?ll let you know what the verdict is.
Ah well! If it?s not one thing, it?s another with a 44 years old car.
