Yep, I think I made the correct geographic decision on where to live based on 2004 numbers (most recent), and it does look like Memphis is a shithole (sorry Captain R).

After living and working in the New York City area for more than 25 years, and especially since Giuliani really cleaned things up, I am always amazed at the stories about crime in some of the mid-sized cities in this country.
And I really appreciate that New York's reputation is far worse than its reality. Sure, there are some places that you don't want to find yourself at the wrong time of night, but NYC is not even in the top 100 cities in the country for crime. Who would ever guess that?

Hey M: Move to where? you'll find this kind of shit going on in every large city in the nation. The police are not there to protect you from harm. Our beloved courts have seen to that with 'Probable Cause' and 'Miranda' et al. Every now and then we got lucky and were able to prevent a crime from happening, but 95% of the time we arrived at the scene after the fact and only wrote a report for the detectives to follow up on. I have a carry permit and wouldn't leave home without it. 25 miles up the road is Hot Springs, which is full of drugs and crime. It's a town of 35,000 but is averaging a homicide a week. As I've always said, "Better to judged by 12....than be carried by 6." Get my drift?

It sounds like you live in a shit hole. Why don't you move?

recent story in the Commercial Appeal about a small town girl in Dumas AR (I
believe) called her mother said she was on her way home, driving home in the
early evening and ran out of gas. They found her body a week later. I have two daughters one will not carry so I bought her a Streamlight flashlight to shine in an attackers eyes and real mace. The other just turned 21 and she will carry.
>The reason I say this is in my City, everyday there are 60,000 convicted felons free on the street and another 60,000 people who do crime for a living, everyday. These times with people on drugs are not like any days anyone remembers. You venture 100 yards of Beale Street to your parked car and you're going to be a victim sooner or later. >Guns are for 'getaways' not confrontation. As a LE friend said to me the more getaway shots you have the better off you are. Also, if your depending on the Police to protect you they really do try, but probably the only protection you'll get will be for your dead body. In my City, there are the bump and grab, purposeful minor accidents, everyone stops to swap insurance information, and you're dead or hurt. I know for some of us it is hard to think like that but
we're not committing the crime or doing these awful things. Drug addicts will do ANYTHING for more drugs, and your life means nothing to them. >When your at work, and your office is invaded, and you're a hostage, bound gagged and blindfolded , and when the police finally arrive, there between your eyes is the imprint of a 357 barrel, you'll understand you don't have to be anywhere but at work to have a deadly situation. > >Robert Rehkopf >_________________________________________________________________ >To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: >http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/mstark%40copper.net > >Sponsored by BidNip.com eBay Auction Sniper > > > _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/red5hilser%40aol.com
