The SPeed channel just showed a program about the P GTO - and of course, the famous C&D cover saying the Pontiac was faster than the F GTO was discussed. The guy in charge of the advertising program (Jim Wangers - who appears on Speed often and always wears a toupee) said there were 2 GTOs present at the track on the day the P GTO was being tested - but neither ran against the Pontiac - or ran much at all that day. He also said the 0-100-0 time of 11 something quoted for the P GTO wouldn;t have happened if it were pushed off a cliff! But when he saw the story he didn't want to correct them ;-) American advertising at its best! Probably *all* advertising execs as it goes. The other comments about the F GTO were of a suspicious nature also.
It's amusing that they even compared the two cars then....and maybe more amusing that people took it seriously!
<Anyway - it was an interesting segment. It's a shame the F GTOs have gone <to stratospheric prices - the only way to see one is at a place like <Monterey or a museum. Sigh.....
Maybe those with the means should jump on 288s.....according to FORZA market guide they've climbed about $100k over the last 4 years. I remember an old M&T issue which featured Paul Frame's F40, F50, 288 GTO, etc, and they remarked that the "288 is worth significantly more than any Pontiac"....
The way muscle is going for these days, don't think that's necessarily true anymore!
I like muscle a lot, but how can you pay Veyron money for a convertible Cuda?
How?
