The SPeed channel just showed a program about the P GTO - and of course, the
famous C&D cover saying the Pontiac was faster than the F GTO was discussed.
The guy in charge of the advertising program (Jim Wangers - who appears on
Speed often and always wears a toupee) said there were 2 GTOs present at the
track on the day the P GTO was being tested - but neither ran against the
Pontiac - or ran much at all that day. He also said the 0-100-0 time of 11
something quoted for the P GTO wouldn;t have happened if it were pushed off
a cliff! But when he saw the story he didn't want to correct them ;-)
American advertising at its best! Probably *all* advertising execs as it
goes. The other comments about the F GTO were of a suspicious nature also.
Anyway - it was an interesting segment. It's a shame the F GTOs have gone to stratospheric prices - the only way to see one is at a place like Monterey or a museum. Sigh.....

From the October 2006 issue of Business F1 magazine, this article details some of the behind the scenes intrigue surrounding Michael's retirement. Interesting reading, for sure.
