The 87 year was the year they BMW went to the Maint Light system based on how you drove the car. A set of 5 green one yellow and one red light on the driver panel would signal you when required maint was needed. Also this was before synthetic oils were established. BMW are great cars but be very wary on who owned it first and when in doubt don’t buy. We collectively could start a whole thread on these maint lights that are now running our cars to in include check engine lights and the like. -----Original Message----- From: Jim's Email [mailto:jimshadow [at] verizon.net] Sent: Friday, December 29, 2006 9:03 AM To: Clarence Romero Jr. Cc: 'The FerrariList' Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Notes on Steve's Mods Clyde is dead on. My 1st BMW was a '81 320i that I bought with 210K on it. It was an exceptionally well documented car. I proceeded to drive it until 313K when the rear shock towers rusted through....All I ever did to it was routine maint. and replaced a water pump. Subsequent BMW's have been equally as flawless. Many think its a ploy but I've religiously followed their maintenance schedule and have rarely had any issues with the cars I've owned. FWIW, YMMV.
