The 550 will be cheaper to maintain for a number of reasons.
The engine doesn’t have to come out to do the belts, and the major service
Also this car doest break!
The car has later technology overall making the car easier to diagnosis
When something does go bad as well.
The 550 is an excellent car and buy
I would not pay over $80k for one thought because that is market for them
now
The 575 has driven the price down along with the 599/612 etc.
If you can afford it buy a 575 since it is an even better car than the 550
That is what I am planning on buying.

First off, this is meant as no disrespect to Michael Sheehan. He was just
documenting what some other guys were actually doing. I respect Michael's
opinion a lot and view him as a very valuable member of the Ferrari
community.

Ok, around 2 years ago we had a discussion about the 550. At the time it
was said by a few owners and others that the 550s and 575s were by far the
most daily drivable Grand Touring 2 seater Ferraris ever made. It was also
pointed out that the maintenance was actually cheaper than the maintenance
on the V8 counterparts due to the ease in which the timing belts could be
changed and general engine access. And that the maintenance costs are way
way cheaper than the maintenance costs on an older V12 car (the specific
example was the TR and 512TR series of cars). This was also confirmed by a
few Ferrari dealerships that I have been in. I was told that the 30K
maintenance on a 550 is significantly cheaper than the 30K on a 360, 355,
348, or even a 328, not to mention a TR or 512TR.

So, either this car is not indicative of the typical 550, or these guys just
had way more money than brains (this is the answer I pick).

Ok, since it has been a little while since this was discussed, is the 550
cheaper, basically the same, or more expensive to own than any other Ferrari
and why?
