Here's as good an explanation as I have seen of the way things really work: the hubris of socialism, which embraces linear centralized planning while denying the complexity of the marketplace, the overweening stupidity of the quasi-religion of environmentalism and, for good measure, our idiotic portrayal of the American Indian as a steward of nature, living in harmony with some imagined Eden-like natural environment.
